Wine Tasting at Gerovassiliou’s vineyard

1 comments 0 share
September for some means grape-picking and wine-making. There’s a reason Central Macedonia has landmarked vineyards on the map as part of our “Wine Roads”: the variety, quality and abundance of production in the area makes it a choice destination for wine amateurs!

We had an all-senses tour of the estate, starting off in the winery then to the Museum (with its impressive collection of corkscrews!) and followed by a wine tasting – of which the signature Avaton and the Malagousia, from a grape reintroduced by Mr Gerovassiliou, no less.
To fully appreciate our visit, we sat down on the beautiful covered terrace, overlooking the estate and its art sculptures. The food is, as you can imagine, very good; special mention to a savory cheesecake which didn’t survive the first round of table, and to the wine-flavored salt accompanied by… but yes, locally produced wine of course!

The visit can be completed by a tour of the close by estate, first provider of wine leaves for the famous rice-buns “dolmadakia”.

And there are many more activities that are best enjoyed in autumn; bird watching & horse riding on lake Kerkinni, Rock climbing at Meteora, Rafting in Zagorohori Gorge, Hiking on Mt Olympus…
